"Don't look down on me just because I seem to be an insignificant nail. I traveled the world and I have seen much in life. The highlight of my life was the day I was taken by a Roman soldier along a dusty road that led to Calvary.

When he took me out of his bag, I saw three men waiting to be crucified. Serve them right, these criminals! But there was something different about the man in the middle. Those weeping women called Him "Messiah". A plaque on the cross read "King of the Jews". So this was no ordinary man. He seemed to be well loved and respected. I hate to see this man die. For once, I wish I wasn't a nail.

A soldier placed me at the wrist of the man in the middle and hammered me in. "Ouch, ouch!" my head hurts. How self-centered I was. The pain must have been excruciating for Him, but He was silent. As His head turned, I saw those eyes. They were not eyes of anger and hatred, but of love and compassion. I heard Him say, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.

"There was something I didn't understand. What crime has He committed? "He claimed to be the Son of God," one woman told another. But...to be crucified for that? Later, I gathered it had to do with what man called "sin". This man had to bear the sins of the world. That sounded pretty heavy. Poor man.

It wasn't long before He breathed His last. Honestly, I was sad to see Him die. If He claimed to be God, and if it is true, surely He can save Himself? Why didn't He come down from the cross? My fellow nails and I secured Him to the cross. But it was love, love for the world that held Him there."

The story of a simple nail triggered much thought about all that Jesus had done. Who drove those nails? Was it the crowd-pleasing Pilate? The religious establishment of the day? Or the dutiful Roman soldiers?

The apostle Peter, in addressing the crowd at Pentecost, said, "...and you, with the help of wicked men, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross. But God raised Him from the dead, freeing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on Him' (Acts 2:22-24, NIV, italics mine).

It was our sins that drove those nails! And it was love, God's love for us that held His Son to the cross.

This Easter, as we ponder on the significance of our Savior's death and resurrection, may we love Him even more. Let us take this opportunity to bring someone into the loving embrace of His nail-scarred hands.

hey everyone,

just a reminder, our cell's scheduled date for the 365 prayer chain will be this coming FRIDAY (12 DEC 08), 7 to 8pm. i've attached the list of prayer pointers. didnt get a chance to tell you guys about it yesterday, so please read this email carefully!

as some of you guysl might know, our church has been involved in this 24.365 prayer chain for some years. this year, COOS is in charge from 7-14 Dec 2008, and the Youth Division is assigned to be the prayer watchmen from 11-13 Dec. Each cell/ministry is assigned a 1-hour prayer slot.
for our cell, each of us will pray individually for about five minutes. using the prayer pointers to guide you, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you, to lead you to pray for whatever God has impressed upon your heart. you dont have to pray for every point listed on the guide. my prayer is really that each and every one of you will take this seriously, and set aside time to pray for our country and our church. for the benefit of those who didnt come for service just yesterday, pastor michael shared about faithfulness to God. faithfulness that will stand the test of time, of trials, of setbacks and of mockery. personally, it really spoke to me, because in the world we're leaving in today, its so easy to forget about God when we're with our friends, when we dont want to feel left out, or be seen as uncool. but we must see that ultimately, all the worldly things that we're striving for, or that we're obsessed with, will become nothing when we all go to heaven to be with our heavenly Father. and if we are able to be faithful in our walk with God, i really believe faithfulness will come naturally to us in other areas of our lives. even though this 365 prayer chain thing might seem a tad trivial, and you might think you're just one out of millions who are praying too, God sees each and every one of our hearts. and each and everyone of us count when we cry out fervently to God for our nation and our church.

Father, i thank you for each and everyone whos in cell, i thank You for their faithfulness to You, and i thank You for Your faithfulness in their lives since the day they were born. I pray that even as they have their holidays now, it'll be a meaningful one, one filled with happiness and joy, and through events and happenings, they'll learn something new each time. I pray Your blessings and protection upon everyone, regardless of whether they're in sg or overseas, that You'll guard them from any harm and You'll keep them safe in Your loving hands. thank you Father, Your grace is sufficient for us, and we have nothing to fear. amen.

FOR 50 YEARS, cartoonist Charles Schulz gave us pictures of ourselves wrapped in a smile. One of the last strips I clipped from our Sunday paper showed Snoopy the dog sitting on top of his doghouse with a typewriter, writing about his life. He titled his story . . .

The Dog Who Never Did Anything

Snoopy remembers it this way, “You stay home now,” they said, “and be a good dog.”

So he stayed home and was a good dog.

Then he decided to be even a better dog. So he barked at everyone who went by. And he even chased the neighbor’s cats.

“What’s happened to you?” they said. “You used to be such a good dog.”

So he stopped barking and chasing cats, and everyone said, “You’re a good dog.”

The moral, as Snoopy typed it, is “Don’t do anything and you’ll be a good dog.”

As I turned the smile around in my mind, I noticed a quirk of the English language. Snoopy and God have something in common. They are related not only by alphabet (dog and god), but by what “creatures in the middle” expect of them. The idea intrigued me enough to try another version.

The God Who Never Did Anything

“You give me what I want now,” they said, “and be a good God.”

So He gave them what they wanted and He was a good God.

Then He decided to be an even better God.

He started knocking over the furniture of other gods, and He used pain to help people in ways they could not understand.

“What’s happened to You?” they said.

“You used to be such a good God.”

So He stopped knocking over the furniture of other gods, and He stopped using pain in ways that were beyond people’s ability to understand.

And everyone said, “You’re a good God.”

The moral, as angels might see it, “Stop acting like God and people will think You’re good.”

The God We Want

Many of us imagine God as we want Him to be. To our wishes we add expectation. We expect Him to encourage us when we are afraid, to comfort us when we’re hurt, to forgive us when we fail, and to give us what we think we need when we think we need it.

Yet, along the way, we keep stumbling into the awareness that the King of Heaven is more apt to come to us in His own style, time, and mystery. He is seldom as we imagine Him to be. He is more like the God who reveals Himself in the pages of His own history.

There He comes to us in the unexpected surprises of joy, in the unwanted nights of our misery, and in the solitary sounds of our own loneliness. He comes to us in the unexpected joys of Adam, in the numbed grief of Eve, in the inconsolable tears of the childless Hannah, in the murderous anger of Moses, and in the madness of a powerful Nebuchadnezzar.

But me? Until He responds, I’d rather have it my way. In the moments of my dissatisfaction, I don’t want to have to wait for what I want. I want it now. Now. I’ll pray. I’ll pay. I’ll bargain. I’ll crawl on my knees. But I want God to prove that He is good—right now.

The God Who Has Been Good

Even in our “maturity” we can be like 2- and 3-year-olds pulling at the pant leg of heaven. Our Father isn’t surprised. He knows how to raise physical, emotional, and spiritual toddlers. He knows how to run with us in our youth, and how to walk with us at 74, 84, and 94.

And for those who go further, He is still there, hearing once again our whimpers in the night, and reaching down with the affection of an adoring mother who carefully lifts her children from their crib to herself.

No, He has not always been the kind of parent we wanted Him to be. Yes, He has been good on His terms rather than on ours. He has not answered our prayers in the way we asked. Seldom has He allowed anything to play out according to our own expectations or childish demands. Yet His determination to lead us in the paths of His own choosing is what has made Him so good.

The God Who Will Be Good

The promise of tomorrow comes with the wrinkled snapshots of yesterday. Even though our memories are not as sharp as we’d like them to be, and even though the happy times are mixed with regret, our albums contain memories of a God who keeps reminding us that He is better than our expectations. He is better than our demands. He is better than anything this life has to offer.

If He allowed a relationship to be lost, He stayed with us to remind us that we weren’t made for one another as much as we were made for Him. As our bodies give way to time, they become painful reminders that we were not made for these bodies. We were made for the One who said from the top of a thundering, burning mountain—to a people huddled in the middle of a life-threatening wilderness—“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.”

This is the God who, because He is good, refuses to “stay home and do nothing.”

Father, thank You for a man named Charles Schulz who brought us elements of truth amid our smiles. Thank You for being God on Your terms rather than ours. May Your name be hallowed as we wait on You. May Your kingdom be reflected in our patience. May Your will be done in our disappointments. Please, give us this day our daily bread.

i thought i'll write down something that i felt God telling me these past weeks - to be thankful. you might say, but i'm thankful for everything i have. i guess most people can say they are thankful for things, but how many of us ARE actually and genuinely thankful for everything we've have, our family, school, teachers, friends and all? and in life, everything really happens for a purpose, because afterall, our lives are in God's hands. nothing in life happens by chance, and in the end, although you may think the situation's hopeless, feel crushed or even on the verge of giving up your faith because you feel God hasnt been there for you when you needed Him the most, everything works out good for those who love Him. and its in sad times, trying moments where theres pain, hurt, guilt, regret, and all the unhappy emotions associated with it that we have to thank God, praise Him and seek Him all the more. because, how do we ever learn if we dont fail? how do we ever grow if we havent fallen? trying times only serve to make you stronger, and to prepare you for whatever's ahead. being thankful also means treasuring every single thing that you have, big or small. and being contended with the life God's given you and the people and situations that He has placed in your life. "comparison is the root to dissatisfaction" one of my teacher used to remind us way back in secondary school, which looking back, was a rather sound advice. often we compare ourselves with our friends, whos prettier, whos cooler, who has more friends, more tags, more happening life, more smses, whos smarter, whos taller and the list just goes on. but although comparison per se isnt a bad thing, more often that not, it leaves us feeling bitter, unhappy and resentful, against ourselves, the people and God. if you dont get anything i'm trying to say, its fine(: just remember, each and every one of you is special in God's eyes. dont have to compare, and remember to be thankful for everything, because you never know when you might leave this world, or when things you have been taking for granted will get robbed from you in an instant.

to those who went for the Redhill Children's Club on saturday, a BIG THANK YOU for coming and for your contributions, big or small. i'm glad everything was more well planned this time, and it was really evident the children had a good time :)

EOYs are just around the corner for most, if not all of you, SO, i'll need you guys to send me the dates for your exams so i can keep you all in prayer.

Just some notes:
1. YES 6, initially scheduled for this sat, will be postponed till further notice

hey guys,

just a reminder, there'll be NO CELL this sat(23 Aug 08) as we'll be going down to Redhill for cell outreach from 3 to 4.30pm. we'll be meeting at redhill mrt station at 2.45pm, so please be there!

for the whole of this week, coos is holding the school of supernatural worship and the arts, and from wed till fri, night sessions will be free. i think it'll be good for all of us to go down at least one day to hear, experience and learn something out of this not to be missed conference. i'm proposing we go down together on FRI(22 Aug 08) as a cell for the night session. we can dinner before that at church hawker.

Here are a few announcements that is quite important, so please spread the word to read it.

1. Day of His Power:
Day/Date: Friday 8 AUG
Venue: Singapore Expo
Time: 7.30pm

we can meet outside at 7pm if anyone of you all are going and sit together. please sms me if you want to sit together as a cell.

2. Pray and Bless
- Each of you's supposed to set a faith target for the number of people you are going to bless from now till oct 08. faith target refers to the number of people you aim to bless. can be 5, can be 20. alex will be asking you for your faith target on sat 9aug, so be ready to tell him. before you come up with a number, pray and seek God with regards to what your faith target should be. theres really no "ideal faith target" or "just because others are setting their faith targets at 10 and i set at 5 so i'm a loser" kind of thing. what matters more, and probably the most, is that you are alright with it, and you try your best to achieve it.
- just a reminder, Monday is PRAYER day, Thursday is BLESSING day ( :

hello guys!

there'll be NO CELL this sat (2 aug 08) because most of us will be down for ushering (prep work starts 3pm). i'll see all of you in service(: please please do try to go for service, as it's quite important. we'll be launching the PRAY AND BLESS campaign.

as most of you might know, Gideon'll be stepping down with effect from last sat (26 july 08). please pray for him, that he'll be able to handle his school work and also pray for his promos (which are coming quite soon i think).

i would also like to thank God for crystal, wai yin and mark who came for our last cell. good job brenda and kaien for bringing them here(: i trust that God has already planted a seat in their hearts(:

Cell Funds?

Hello everybody :D.

This is my first blog entry on the cell blog, so please bear with me! Regarding the Cell Funds issue, I've decided to collect the money once every two months. It's easier to pay me 2 bucks instead of 1.

So, please bring $2 for the Cell Funds for June & July 2008. There's no hurry but isn't it better to get it over and done with?

I have got to say, today's service was really enlightening. God's presence was exceptionally strong to me and we were taught how to pray, well correctly. For those that weren't as service, you may go and read Luke 11: 1-13. I found it really meaningful and great reference for everyone.

Redhill Cell Outreach

Hello everyone,

Here are the list of games that our cell is in charge of this coming saturday. If your name is next to the game, it means you are in charge of that station. Basically, the kids will be spilt into groups, and they will move around the different stations(: Our cell will be taking 6 games while Grace's cell will be taking 4.

1. (CIRCUIT GAME STATION 1)Arrow shooting - Rachel, Lynnette
Each participant will be given 3 shots to shoot as many arrows into the targets. Each successful arrow that enters the target will be awarded 10 points.

The target will be the toilet bowl seat cover which will be suspended on a string. Arrows will be toilet brushes.

2. (CIRCUIT GAME STATION 3) Kissing Pistol - Brenda
Participant is to be blindfolded and will have a lip stick mark. He/She will have to listen to his team commands directions and then walk to the pasted target to put the lip stick mark onto it. There are different points for the various targets. Score as many points as he/she can.

3. (CIRCUIT GAME STATION 6) Peanut Gathering - Justin
Form a row of 5 or more. Each person will have to bite a spoon. 1st playTer will scoop the peanut on the table then transfer the peanut to the next player. No hands allowed. 3 minutes will be given. Collect as many peanuts as possible, and each peanut scores 5 points.

4. (CIRCUIT GAME STATION 8) Hop Scotch - Joshua
Every member is to play, and each member will go one by one. okay, i'm not too sure how exactly this game is supposed to be played, but i guess it'll be like the normal hop scotch. the kids will be using beanbags.

5. (CIRCUIT GAME STATION 9) Aeroplane Landing - Ren Hui
Each participant will be given 3 chances to land their paper aeroplane onto the right spot given. Each right landing will receive 10 points.

6. (CIRCUIT GAME STATION 10) Basket the Ball - Zach
Each participant gets 3 balls to shoot. Score as many points as possible. Each ball scored is worth 10 points.

alright, please read through this and be familiar with what you are supposed to do on that day. We will be briefed regarding the details on that day so no worries either(:

Kaien and chris, please confirm if you are coming on that day so I can arrange for you to help in the games too!

has it occured to you, that we arent just Christians on Sunday/Saturday?
has it occured to you, that when we do something bad (i couldnt think of a better word), we are not being good examples!
okay i know this isnt a very good example, but, FOR EXAMPLE. you swear infront of people.
i know, now the F word is almost the norm. but its still a vulgarity. so yeah. when others hear you swearing like nobody's business, wont they think "wah, Christians also like that!!"
and thus, we will become a bad example.
we want more people to come to Christ dont we?
but if we arent good examples, how will we do that?

??

READ: John 9:1-11
Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. -John 9:3

If you didn't know him, you might think Nick Vujicic has everything going for him. Nick has never had a sore arm. He's never had knee problems. He's never smashed his finger in a door, stubbed his toe, or banged his shin against a table leg.

But that's because Nick doesn't have a shin. Or a toe. Or a finger. Or a knee. Or an arm. Nick was born with no arms and no legs. Before you begin to feel sorry for Nick, read his words. "God won't let anything happen to us in our life unless He has a good purpose for it all. I completely gave my life to Christ at the age of 15 after reading John 9. Jesus said that the reason the man was born blind was 'so that the works of God may be revealed through him.' . . . I now see that glory revealed as He is using me just the way I am and in ways others can’t be used." Nick travels the world to spread the gospel and love of Jesus.

Nick says, "If I can trust in God with my circumstances, then you can trust in God with your circumstances. . . . The greatest joy of all is having Jesus Christ in my life and living the godly purpose He has for me."

Can we say that? Can we look beyond our limitations and have the same trust in God that transformed a man with no arms or legs into a missionary for Jesus?

firstly, thank you all (those who were there on sat) for contributing (actively) in the planning for the upcoming cell outreach(:

please do remember to ask your frens if they can make it. we'll go one round next sat to share. this is so that we'll be accountable to ourselves, the cell, and God.

for those who were not here on sat, we basically did planning for cell outreach.

alright, i shall be naggy, here it goes:

1) bring cell notebook every week to jot down notes from word. highly HIGHLY encouraged as it really helps us remember what was being taught during word
2)pray for the people whom you'll be invited to cell outreach
3)ASK your frens
4)okay, to enable cell to start on time, and you guys to have sufficient time after cell before service to rest, for those who are NOT able to make it, please msg/call either gideon or i to inform us in advance so we can start cell promptly at 4pm. for those who will be coming for cell, please come at least 10 mins in advance to prepare yourself, and get a chance to interact with other cell members!
5)READ THE SCHEDULE BELOW! (: i understand that some of you might not be able to make it for cell during the days which you are scheduled. i'm okay with it if you've got a reason for it, so just swap among yourself and inform me and gideon asap.

If you guys are wondering if there's any further updates on the Redhill outreach, we won't be helping out in May. Instead, there we'll be taking part in 2 events in June. Possibly an outing to a park/playground plus a barbeque. Look out for it! I think it'll be as fun as having a cell outing. Or even more so, since we'll get a chance to play with all the kids!

Yesterday, we went for confirmation service to support Jemina, Sarah, Rachel and Kai En. Sorry if you guys were surprised by the change! We also had a short round of sharing in cell on the previous saturday's ministry. Hope you guys enjoyed yourself!

This coming sat, please take note of two things:
1. There will be a training session for the Redhill children's outreach by Aunty Anne at Room 305 from 10-1. It's quite important and we'll have a great time learning together, so try to turn up if you're free in the morning!
2. Cell will be at Room 214 at 4 pm as usual. See you all there!

The highlights of yesterday were the youth baptism service and our hospitality session. ...Congrats again Justin on getting baptised! We're truly happy for you. To echo Nicholas, we had a great time supporting you! Also, good job for those who were serving drinks and helping out in some way during hospitality. Special thanks to Caleb Teo and Soh for doing the washing up!

Cell next week is at the cell room at 4. Remember to bring your bible and your notes!

Other announcements:
1. There are going to be two evening worship sessions with Planetshakers and Tim Hughes on the 10th and 11th of April, 730, Singapore Expo Hall 10. It might be quite a good experience for you, so do consider going! Admission's free, so don't worry about the cost. It would be good if we could go together as a cell, preferably on Friday since Thursday might not be very convenient with school on the next day. Check your schedule! We'll discuss this further in cell.

HOSPITALITY. Yes, it's our cell's scheduled slot to make milo and serve drinks... We'll be combining for the afternoon, so meet as usual at the cell room at 4. No P&W or sharing, but we'll still be going for service later on.

Hey all!

I hope you enjoyed the last cell session and all the fun we had playing the game with the quiz questions! And I hope you realize that learning stuff about the bible is pretty interesting. (:

This coming Sat we're going to have P&W and Sharing, same time, 4 at the cell room. It will be the first cell that we won't be combining at all! So do come with happy hearts, and bring your bible and notes!

Just some other announcements:
1. Redhill Children's Outreach. We'll be combining into our old cell to go serve the kids at Redhill once a month. They'll be children between 5 to 8 years old, and we'll be doing activities like bible story telling, playing with them, and praise and worship. On those days, we'll probably meet at about 2 and spend time there until service, so there'll be no cell. If you like kids look forward to lots of fun and cute-ness! :] More updates to come soon.

OK so I was supposed to draw a tree or something. So I did. Added in a bunny rabbit to make it emo-ish. Just kidding. But whatever.

Yeah so it was OK, then I put it through the computer, and the lousy scanner couldn't take the color of the picture. So I had to photoshop it. Except I don't have photoshop. But whatever.

So the morale of the story is:
If you like it, thank me,
If you don't, blame the scanner.

thank you brenda for all your hardwork, its really pretty and nice. we'll add a cell photo somewhere soon. i'll bring my cam this week so we can take a cell photo! and we'll put up the cell logo soon. anyone wants to help gid design?
